SMS Consent & Messaging Policy

1. What Messages You Will Receive
When you create an OctoFood account or place an order, you may receive transactional SMS messages related to your account and orders, including:
- Verification codes — One-time passcodes to verify your phone number during sign-up or sign-in.
- Order confirmed — Confirmation that your order has been received by the restaurant.
- Order ready — Notification that your order is ready for pickup, including your pickup code.
- Order cancelled — Notification if your order has been cancelled.
- Account alerts — Security notifications about changes to your account (password, email, or phone updates).
We do not send marketing or promotional SMS messages unless you have separately and explicitly opted in to receive them.
2. How You Opt In
You provide consent to receive SMS messages from OctoFood when you:
- Enter your phone number during account creation and tap “Continue” to receive a verification code.
- Enable SMS notifications in your account settings (Profile > Notification Preferences).
- Place an order while SMS order notifications are enabled in your preferences.
By providing your phone number and proceeding, you expressly consent to receive the transactional SMS messages described above at the phone number you provided. You confirm that you are the owner or authorized user of that phone number.
Consent language shown in the app:
“By continuing, you agree to our Terms & Privacy Policy. You consent to receive SMS messages from OctoFood for account verification and order updates. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time.”
3. How to Opt Out
You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any OctoFood SMS message.
- Disabling SMS notifications in the app: Profile > Notification Preferences > toggle off “SMS Notifications.”
- Contacting us at support@octofood.app.
After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message: “You have been unsubscribed from OctoFood SMS notifications. Reply START to resubscribe.” You will not receive any further SMS messages unless you re-subscribe.
To resubscribe: Reply START to any previous OctoFood message, or re-enable SMS notifications in your account settings.
4. Message Frequency & Costs
- Frequency: Message frequency varies based on your order activity. Typical users receive 1–5 messages per order.
- Costs: Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. OctoFood does not charge for SMS messages, but your carrier may.
- Carriers supported: SMS delivery is supported on all major Canadian and US carriers.
5. Privacy & Data Use
Your phone number is used solely for the purposes described in this policy and in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with third parties for marketing purposes. Your phone number is shared only with our SMS delivery provider (Twilio) for the sole purpose of delivering messages to you.
All consent actions (opt-in, opt-out, resubscribe) are logged with timestamps for compliance and audit purposes, in accordance with CASL (Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation) and TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act) requirements.
